Parents

Hello there,

We haven't met yet, but I look forward to getting to meet you at Parents Evening soon.  Hopefully your child has explained the purpose of this blog by now, but just in case they haven't, or have and you're still confused then let me have a bash.

I'm constantly looking for ways to stretch children at school and very often 60 minutes just isn't enough.  Recently I have been extremely impressed by the investigation, undertaken on three poems by John Keats, that your child has been a part of.  I plan to return to this work in the near future, but some very definite progress was made by pupils during the process and some startling ability revealed.  In response to this I decided over Christmas to look at how to extend children in Year 9 beyond the classroom environment.  As you will appreciate it is not always possible to get round 32 children (at the most) in one lesson; feedback in books then becomes the backstop and often the most reliable dialogue between teacher and pupil, however my ulterior purpose in setting up the blog is to involve you the parent or carer as well.  Often books are kept at school and not always seen at home on a regular basis, but the blog offers you the chance to monitor (and participate if you wish) in extension tasks that will consist of homework tasks or more often alternative tasks and activities to keep Year 9 focused and interested in English as a subject.

I believe an active involvement at home in what we're up to at school pays massive dividends to our children's education and creativity and this is something I believe should be a little more on show!

In order to keep up to date with the blog, without having to actively check it every now and then for updates, you will see there is a 'Follow by Email' option.  If you enter your email and confirm the automatic ping sent to the email you provide, you will be sent an email every time there is a new post.  The idea is that this becomes a 'stretching' arena and NOT an additional burden or stress on busy lives.

You will also find advice and comments on education, as well as a collection of other blogs for further study at www.thelearningobjectivetodayis.blogspot.co.uk
